 101 Call for Papers-9th UIC "User-Producer Interaction Programme" on ROLLING STOCK TECHNOLOGY in Seoul, Korea,17-19 Oct 2006
 Concerning International Union of Railways (UIC) 2005/12/17  
The UIC, in association with Korea Railroad (KORAIL), is organising the above event in Seoul from 17 to 19 October 2006.
The event will include both product exhibition and poster sessions from global supply industry and UIC member railways.

Interested speakers for the event have been asked to forward a two page synopsis of their proposed paper by 1 January 2006 and a final draft by 1 March 2006.

 102 ISO 9001: 2000 Certificate Accreditation to Train Care Centre, Basin Bridge, Chennai

 Concerning SR 2005/12/03  
The Train Care Centre, Basin Bridge has been accredited with ISO 9001: 2000 certificate for its entire coach maintenance activities involving Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering and Traffic departments by M/s.Kvalitet Veritas Quality Assurance, New Delhi. This is the first time in Indian Railways that the entire train maintenance activities by various departments are covered with ISO certification.

ISO accreditation function was organized at the Basin Bridge depot on Thursday, 24-11-05. Mr. M.Durai Anand Kumar, Lead Auditor, Kvalitet Veritas Quality Assurance, New Delhi handed over the ISO 9001 : 2000 certificate to Dr.G.Narayanan, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai in the presence of Mr.Thomas Varghese, General Manager, Southern Railway .

The General Manager, Southern Railway lauded the employees for their effort to get accreditation and urged the employees to fulfill the customer’s needs.

The Chief Rolling Stock Engineer, Shri M.Jayasingh briefed various coach maintenance activities carried out in the depot and some of the innovations made by the Mechanical Branch of Chennai Division to improve the passenger comforts which includes Provision of Triangular coach indication boards, Polyvinyl sticker destination boards, Sliding Door for Lavatory, Provision of Dust Bins in Sleeper Classes, Provision of Auto Janitors in lavatories, Provision of polyvinyl floor mat, Provision of Micro-busters.

Shri.A.R.Tupe, Sr.DME/MAS thanked the gathering.

 103 CNG run trains for Indian Railways

Northern Railways has obtained safety clearances for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines and will soon introduce these for regular passenger trains.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs is likely to consider if mono rail is a better option than a mass rapid transport system (MRTS) on standard gauge for the Bangalore Metro.

 105 CAG and CVC lens may not be must for PSUs
 Concerning GOI 2005/10/15  
The Centre has sought comments from the Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) and Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on a proposal to do away with mandatory audit by the CAG for all PSEs, in addition to statutory audit done by the audit firm. The suggestion is to resort to such supplementary audit only in exceptional cases.
In case of the CVC, the suggestion is to restrict the coverage of CVC’s jurisdiction to senior executives and functional directors, including CEOs of PSEs, and to restrict such vigilance only to the director level in the case of select Navratnas.

 108 Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani goes German!
 Concerning ER 2005/10/12  
The trial of the first LHB Rajdhani Rake was conducted on the 7 October, between Howrah and Asansol, as a first step towards replacing the existing Howrah Delhi Rajdhani trains with the state of art LHB coaches.
The trial attended by the General Manager, Eastern Railway, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, senior officials, and members from the press, has taken the process of modernising the coaching fleet beyond the Western Railways.

For the first time in its history, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala has manufactured Meter Gauge AC Chair Car. It was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister of State for Railways (N) on the 11 April, 2005.
Based on a completely indeginous design effort, it is expected to get export orders from other countries as well.

 117 OHSAS 18001 Certification to Mysore Workshop
 Concerning SWR 2005/03/20  

Central Workshop, South Western Railway, Mysore has been awarded OHSAS
18001-1999 Certificate for conforming to Occupational Health and Safety
Management System. This certificate is valid for three years i.e. up
to 18th January, 2008.

This Workshop has become the first workshop on Indian Railway and
second among all workshops to get this certificate. Before this, CRWS,
Bhopal has been awarded with this certificate.

This item has been highlighted in India Today’s issue of 23rd August, in their Cover Story of “57 ways to make India a better place”.
Also, Coaching Depot/Indore of Ratlam Division has been awarded with ISO 9001:2000. It is important to mention that on Western Railway, Coaching Depot/Indore is the first major depot to achieve this certificate. Earlier this Depot has already been awarded ISO 9002:1994.
